Thirsty for a Cole Drop?

Anticipating J.Cole? Ready for him to stop teasing with album-worthy mixtapes and genius features? Hop in line. Take a number. We ALL need Mr. Jermaine to hurry up and quit playing with us!

His latest mixtape, ‘Friday Night Lights’, was released November 12, 2011 and still has fans clutching it as they wait for the currently untitled album. With carefully chosen samples from Erykah Badu to Cassie to the legendary Stevie Wonder, J.Cole goes hard on soft, romantic beats. The man is much more than an MC. He’s an artist. He verbally picassos pictures of the hood in the true J.Cole manner and never leaves a track open-ended.

He gives interpolations from Tupac, Biggie, Remy Martin and even shows homage to Nas with the song title ‘Villematic’ (originally set to be the mixtape’s title). The late songstress Aaliyah even paid Cole a visit on the ‘Best Friend’ sample with Missy Elliot for the track ‘Best Friend’. Punchlines. Samples. Stories. J.Cole serves it all up on a platter of lyrical talent. Friday Night Lights is still in heavy rotation in my ’99 Corolla and will be until the album release.

Cole recognizes the fans’ thirst and graced us with a drop of ‘Disgusting’ from his debut album on May 4, 2011. The track has a different sound. It may disappoint you upon first listening but that’s just J.Cole flying directly over your head. Upon my second listen, it seems J.Cole is jabbing at the redundancy of many mainstream rappers. The track opens with “Not another line about how life’s a -----.” Wayne says that QUITE often. Is that a jab? You decide. Anyways, if you haven’t heard ‘Disgusting’, take a listen. If you haven’t heard the ‘Friday Night Lights’ mixtape, where’ve you been? Haven't heard his latest album? Ha, that's because we're all waiting.

The summer’s mine,” J.Cole tweeted just days ago. Well let’s just see how hot he can make it…
