Keyshia Cole not too Cool With 2011 BET Awards : )

So apparently Keyshia Cole is not cool with BET not nominating her for any awards for the 2011 BET Awards show. Check out her tweets from last night below:

Keyshia Cole

Keyshia Cole

Let me weigh in on this. Let me start by saying, Keyshia, I love your music. That "Love, I Thought You Had My Back" and "You Changed" on your first LP got me THROUGH, you hear me?
But to be honest, with this last album and singles, you did not come hard and I say that with all respect. First of all, you dropped I Ain't Thru  featuring Nicki Minaj as your first single. Don't get me wrong, it was a catchy tune and you sounded good but you know in your heart that it was NOT a song to be put out as a single. You even admitted that previously and if you don't remember that you did, look here. Maybe you got too caught up in the Nicki Minaj- feature wave. Maybe you felt you had a statement to make. Whatever it was, it was the wrong decision. You know that. Your label tried to TELL you that. Your fans know also. Or at least the fans who aren't so avid that they just love all you do no matter what.

Then, you released Long Way Down which didn't do AS WELL possibly because many were so disappointed with the first track they didn't want to give the second it a chance. Personally, I liked Long Way Down but if you were going to release that, you should have released that first from a marketing perspective. After that release was Take Me Away. I actually liked that track and I don't know why it did not do well (Nice car jam!). My hypothesis is that it didn't do well because the first 2 didn't do well and once again, people weren't trying to give Keyshia Cole a listen or radio play.
So in my opinion (and mine only), it seems right that BET would not offer you an award. You released NICE music, but nothing extraordinary. Nothing different. You didn't go as hard as you have gone before, as hard as you are ABLE to go, as hard as others were going,  OR (and more importantly) as hard as the fans expected you to. Awards are for artists who have done something new or different. You didn't accomplish that this time around.
But it doesn't mean you aren't "the ish" anymore as you said in one of your tweets. It just means you need to find another angle to come from next time around. It also means you need to continue to make creative decisions as you have been doing, but ALSO decisions that will fit your market or draw a bigger, newer market. Just because a hot- feature artist is on your first track and YOU like the track personally doesn't mean it will go over well with the majority of your fans. I believe in you homegirl and I hope that you don't take this as disrespectful at all. Peace & Blessings to you and continue to make and listen to good music.

P.S. Keyshia, that thing with Lil Kim, don't even worry about it. That little girl (YES, little girl) isn't worth 1 tweet out of you! Don't feed into her crap. She just wants publicity because beef is the only way she gets it lately : ) Ask the Harajuku Barbie.

Top 10 Hopes for the 2011 BET Awards

Its about that time fans! The annual BET awards show is around the corner! With nominees such as Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown and performances such as Alicia Keys, this show should be good entertainment. But it seems every year, the show could have been bigger and better. 2010's show peaks nothing in my memory at this moment. The 2009 show was the Michael Jackson tribute (R.I.P. MJ) and even with good intentions, was visibly very thrown-together and last minute. This year has some promise. Here are my top 10 expectations for the 2011 awards, not in order. Some are serious. Some are funny. All would be VERY VERY interesting to see:

1. An "All of the Lights" performance with all of the artists! Ha, wouldn't you just love to see 'Ye in all his arrogant extravagence? Kid Cudi's unique swag? Red-haired, rude-boy lovin' Rihanna? Fergie in all her Fergaliciousness? And Elton John at the piano as Alicia Keys lays on the top in her hot, post-pregnancy body? That's a recipe for a rockin' performance, don't you think?

2. Rocsi needs to ACTUALLY look FLY for once with her non-dressin' behind! C'mon mami, you're a latina!  Where's your flavor? Either your outfit is fly and your hair is blah or your hair is cute nad your outfit is disastrous! *Gets on knees and bows head*, Lord, please don't let Rocsi have tore up hair. Clothes. Nails. Make-up. Shoes...Amen.

3. A Nicki Minaj performance, DUH! But let's all get on our knees and pray again that she doesn't do that DRY lap dance lke she does on her tours. I love you beautiful Nicki, but your lap dance is as dry as a raisin in the sun and you ca check the comments on the youtube videos for confirmation. Here, I'll even post the link for you babygirl:

4. An audience shot of Jim Jones...Yeah, I know that's random but LADIES: Have you SEEN his sexy new haircut?

5. A Lil'Kim and Nicki Minaj BRAWL!! Owww! Now let's not ACT like you ain't heard the diss tracks and read the tweets! Let's face it, that's an event we alllll would be interested to see! My money's on the Nickster though!

6. Some Rookie shine. Hopefully we get to see some of our newer artists in some light. J.Cole. Wale. Wiz Khalifa (minus that ugly blond streak in his head). Jay Electronica. Somaya Reece. Lmbo, okay, that last one was just for laughs.

7. A Reggae/Dancehall section. I DON'T mean just having Rihanna perform either! It seems BET doesn't show all aspects of Black Entertainment.  We have old school sections and gospel sections. It'd be nice to see our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean get some love!

8. A Chris Brown  & Omarion dance battle!! Now word on the 'Net is that O's been saying he would Ether Chris Brown. Sorry O, but I can't see it. I reallyyyyyy can't see it. Hey, but  I'd love to see you try. Get to it boys.

What do you think? Could Omarion show Chris Brown who's the real king?  Or would Breezy wipe the dance floor with the former B2K front man? Here's some videos of them both. Comment below and tell me who would get Ethered : )

O

Breezy
9. 10-Minute stand up from Kevin Hart! That little chocolate drop is HILARIOUS! I know he can do s omething htat beats that wack movie custome change that Queen Latifah pulled.
10. A Soulja Boy appearance.  He should formally announce that he's gotten Tupac's original role in the re-make of Juice. So we can throw tomatos at him. And Tupac albums. Maybe 1 will land in his throat. So he can only spit out real music from now on, ha!
Do you have any things you expect from the 2011 BET Awards? Anything you hope they do or don't do? Comment and share your opinon below! Also, for more information on the awards show click here

Sistah Souljah's Done It Again!! (Excerpt Included!)

A titan in the urban literature game is Sistah Souljah, author of the critically acclaimed 'Coldest Winter Ever', first released in 1999. Sistah Souljah created a heart-wrenching, drama-filled story that made us love and hate Ms. Winter Santiaga from start to finish.

We also met (and if you're like me, fell in LOVE with) the mysterious Midnight, Ricky Santiaga's smooth, right-hand man of few words. There are many holes in this character. He slips through the cracks when the feds blow over Santiaga's house of cards. He has no friends. No home. No background info. And he DOESN'T want Winter Santiaga (*sigh of relief for us GOOD girls*). But why?

She pulled us back up with her '08 installment, Midnight: A Gangster's Love Story.
With Midnight it seemed all burning questions would be answered. Why didn't he want Winter? Why didn't he get sent to prison like the rest? How did he hook up with Santiaga from jump? What type of females does he like? Sistah Souljah answered a few questions but true to form, left us hanging again.

And now... *drum roll please*

Sistah Souljah has graced us and released Midnight and the Meaning of Love. It picks up right where the 1st Midnight left off and should answer questions we all have. I plan to scoop a copy and you should too! Hit up your local book store or website and GET YOURS!

Let's hope it'll be a good morning when Midnight ends.
And if you're about to pass out holding your breath until you can get to a bookstore, here's an asthma pump:

Thirsty for a Cole Drop?

Anticipating J.Cole? Ready for him to stop teasing with album-worthy mixtapes and genius features? Hop in line. Take a number. We ALL need Mr. Jermaine to hurry up and quit playing with us!

His latest mixtape, ‘Friday Night Lights’, was released November 12, 2011 and still has fans clutching it as they wait for the currently untitled album. With carefully chosen samples from Erykah Badu to Cassie to the legendary Stevie Wonder, J.Cole goes hard on soft, romantic beats. The man is much more than an MC. He’s an artist. He verbally picassos pictures of the hood in the true J.Cole manner and never leaves a track open-ended.

He gives interpolations from Tupac, Biggie, Remy Martin and even shows homage to Nas with the song title ‘Villematic’ (originally set to be the mixtape’s title). The late songstress Aaliyah even paid Cole a visit on the ‘Best Friend’ sample with Missy Elliot for the track ‘Best Friend’. Punchlines. Samples. Stories. J.Cole serves it all up on a platter of lyrical talent. Friday Night Lights is still in heavy rotation in my ’99 Corolla and will be until the album release.

Cole recognizes the fans’ thirst and graced us with a drop of ‘Disgusting’ from his debut album on May 4, 2011. The track has a different sound. It may disappoint you upon first listening but that’s just J.Cole flying directly over your head. Upon my second listen, it seems J.Cole is jabbing at the redundancy of many mainstream rappers. The track opens with “Not another line about how life’s a -----.” Wayne says that QUITE often. Is that a jab? You decide. Anyways, if you haven’t heard ‘Disgusting’, take a listen. If you haven’t heard the ‘Friday Night Lights’ mixtape, where’ve you been? Haven't heard his latest album? Ha, that's because we're all waiting.

The summer’s mine,” J.Cole tweeted just days ago. Well let’s just see how hot he can make it…
